Last Sunday I took part in the thoroughbred 10k run in Kildare town and it was a brilliant race! There was a 5k, a 10k and a half marathon on the day. A few weeks back I was hoping to run the half but after the one in Tinahely I wasn’t feeling ready for another 21k just yet. So I signed up for the 10k. Sunday was a really miserable day, cloudy and raining but not too cold so in other words, perfect for a run!!! I’ve never done a race so close to home before and to be honest I was a bit nervous about the fact that I may know people at it. I usually go to races alone or with my brother and don’t usually know anyone else participating. I had the idea that it was better not knowing anybody as there’s less pressure to do well but I realised over the weekend that’s the wrong attitude alltogether! It was so lovely to see some familiar faces there and have a chat before the race. It really helped settle the nerves, and at the end of the day we were all there to try our best and support each other! I’ve yet to meet a runner who doesn’t wish the best to and encourage other runners. Whether you come in first or last, I feel we all have one thing in common, we love running and love to see others share the same passion! I really pushed myself during the race and the weather definitely helped me finish with a race day PB of 52.29 and I was absolutely over the moon! I’m back to training now for the next few weeks for another half marathon in Clontarf in July, I’m crossing my fingers for another rainy day!!
