Irish Internationals Sean Tobin (Clonmel AC) and Shona Heaslip (An Riocht AC) were the male and female winners of the Cork City 10k, hosted by St. Finbarrs AC.

The 10k took the place of the usual Cork City 10 Mile in this years calendar, and with the new course meant guaranteed course record bonuses for the winners courtesy of Peugeot Ireland. These bonuses, coupled with an already very generous prize pot put up by the hosts, meant that some of Irelands best runners toed the line in Cork to battle out for top spot.

In the mens race, it quickly became a 2 horse race between Sean Tobin, the eventual winner, and local athlete and fellow Irish International Ryan Creech from Leevale AC. In the end, after a tight battle, it was Tobin that prevailed, coming in 29:47, 6 seconds clear of Creech in second, with Gavin O Rourke, also of Leevale, third in 31:09.

Conditions were excellent, but this course was testing, making the winning times all the more impressive. The womens race was loaded with talent, but this time the win was more decisive, with Shona Heaslip coming in in 32:27, over a minute clear of Leevales Michelle Finn in second, with Grace Lynch of DSD completing the podium. Peugeot Race “mini” series 1 winner Hannah Steeds was an impressive 4th.

The final round of the Peugeot Race Series takes place in September at the 2024 Charleville Half Marathon.
