So this week marks exactly one year since I started running, I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be training for a half marathon when I began but here I am!!
I literally went from someone who did no exercise whatsoever (the first time I ran I was wearing a pair of runners I’d had in the wardrobe for 6 years) to enjoying running more than I could have imagined.
I looked back on my stats this week and the first 5k I ran took 33minutes, I’ve just this week got it down to 26 minutes which I’m absolutely delighted with!
I also had my first run with the Garmin watch this week and I’m just obsessed with it!
Up until now I’d been using an app on my phone which calls out my distance and pace every 5 minutes, meaning I got some strange looks on the Rathoffey 10k run as my pocket talked to me! Getting updates every 5 minutes ment if I did a slower lap I would have to speed up for the next one to make up for it and I just wasn’t as aware of my pace as I would have liked, but having the Garmin on my wrist and checking it as often as I want so easily means I can keep a good steady pace. I think it’s going to make a big difference to my training and be really beneficial. I’m concentrating on improving my pace at the moment rather than distance. I did three 5ks this week and my pace improved on each one so hopefully that will stand to me when I begin increasing the distance.
My brother’s home again this weekend so we’re hoping to get a 10 or 15k done over it, although we both have colds at the moment so it may be easier said than done but we will give it our best shot!
