RACE REQUIREMENTS
I have never completed a mile before.
Don’t worry! You can do this event at whatever pace you choose; walk, jog, run or race! Participation in the event is what counts.
NUMBER COLLECTION
Where do I get my race number, wristband and shirt (if doing the timed mile)? Where do I sign in?
Collection of all of the above will be available at the KBC Hub, Rose Inn Street, Kilkenny on Thursday 28th from 11am to 5pm and on Friday 29th from 11am to 3pm. They will also be available for collection at Race Headquarters (Marble City Boxing Club, Michael Street), on the night from 5.30pm to 6.30pm only.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Not necessary – we encourage you not to print your entry receipt if at all possible. You can bring your registration confirmation with you on your phone to number collection.
ON THE NIGHT
Can people just turn up on the night and join in? How do I register?
No. ALL participants must be registered to take part. You will receive a number and wristband depending on the event you are registered to take part in. Only those with wristbands will be allowed access to the start line, food and refreshments at the finish, and also, a medal for children who finish.
Where can I park?
Parking is limited on the streets. We recommend that you park in County Hall Kilkenny for FREE. It will be open until 10pm sharp. This should leave you time to celebrate your Medieval Mile Run, have some refreshments with friends, listen to the music and take some photos at the finish. You can also take in a little bit of Christmas shopping in Kilkenny if you wish! Parking is also available in all the usual car parking venues in Kilkenny. It would be appreciated if you can walk or cycle to the event.
When and where does the race start and finish? What is the route?
The KRSP Medieval Mile starts at St. Francis Bridge at 7.30pm on Friday November 29th. The route will take runners from St Francis Bridge towards the Castlecomer Road for a sharp 1800 turn around, back over the bridge past the start line, left turn into Irishtown, up High Street to a big finish on the Parade in the shadow of Kilkenny Castle.
WHEELCHAIR
Can I participate in a wheelchair?
Yes, you can. If you would like to participate competitively, non-competitively or walk and push someone in a wheelchair, you are more than welcome to do so! However, we ask you to keep safe at the start when other participants may get a little anxious to get away very fast!
Recreation Run
Do I need to register my child(ren) for the free Recreation Run?
Children can run FREE but they MUST be registered beforehand and accompanied by a parent at all times during the night (ratio 1 parent to 2 children). YOUR children are YOUR responsibility. All children will receive a finishing medal. The organisers will NOT be responsible for any children running on their own or without a wristband. Children not registered (who don’t have a wristband) will not receive medals.
CAN I RUN IN FANCY DRESS?
Participants are invited to dress up in seasonal costumes! This is a fantastic opportunity to run through the streets of Kilkenny at Christmas time and soak up the Yulefest Kilkenny atmosphere.
STROLLERS/ DOGS/ HEADPHONES
Can I run/walk with a stroller?
The KRSP Medieval Mile is a family-friendly race, and we would love to see you out participating while pushing a stroller. However, we ask you to keep safe at the start when participants may get a little anxious to get away very fast!
Can I run with my dog? Can I bring my dog to watch?
Unfortunately, you may not run the race with your dog for safety related reasons, unless of course your dog is a certified guide Dog. Guide Dogs are always welcome. However, you if you are walking the race, you can bring your dog once it is on a lead. Please start at the back of the field for safety reasons.
Can I run with headphones?
Runner/walker safety has always been, and will continue to be, the top priority for our event. For this reason, the use of personal music devices during the running of the KRSP Medieval Mile is prohibited. While no one is going to physically stop you from doing so on the night, running with headphones shows disrespect to your fellow runners and to the volunteer stewards who give up their time to make your event safe.
KRSP MEDIEVAL MILE RUNNING TOP
The KRSP Medieval Mile Runner running top is awesome! Where can I buy a one?
The exclusively designed running tops are only available to those who register for the timed event. Sizes have been calculated using average percentages from the shirt suppliers. The shirts will be distributed on a first come, first served basis and the organisers will not entertain any queries regarding availability of specific sizes.
A small amount of shirts may be available for purchase on the night.
REFUNDS/TRANSFER REQUESTS
Can I get a refund?
Sorry, but all registrations are non-refundable. This is standard for all races, sporting events, concerts, etc. Please remember Kilkenny Recreation & Sports Partnership is a not for profit organisation. No profit will be generated from the organising of the Medieval Mile Run. We are sorry if you are not be able participate in the race for whatever reason, but hope you understand that the costs of presenting the event are the same whether you attend or not following registration.
