A fast course, crossing over St Francis Abbey bridge, up Irish town, then high street to a lively finish at Kilkenny Castle in the heart of Ireland’s Medieval City.
An event open to all levels! From those going to break the 4 min mile barrier to those out for a stroll with the family!
This race has two events:
- Chipped timing and a specially commissioned technical race T-shirt
- Free event (no timing or t-shirt)
Registration is required for both options!

This is an email on behalf of Kilkenny City Harriers ahead of this Fridays “Irelands Medieval Mile 2022
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Kilkenny this Friday for our annual 1 mile Road Race. Please read the following information carefully to ensure a safe and smooth running of the race.
- Number & T Shirt Collection for the paid mile: Numbers can be collected on Thursday night from 6 to 7 at the KCH club house at the Watershed or on the night from 6 to 7.15 at the James Stephens Army Barracks New Road Roundabout entrance down from the start line.
- Please remember to obey An Garda Síochána and our marshals at all times. Remember that our marshals and our race committee are volunteers who give up their time to ensure the race's success.
- Check in for the free mile: Will be on the night of the race only from 6 to 7.15 at the James Stephens Army Barracks at the New Road Roundabout entrance down from the start line.
- The Route - It is now a lap course so the start and finish lines are different. This race starts at the James Stephens Army Barracks at 7.30pm in Kilkenny City and finish at the Parade at Kilkenny Castle.
- Results - Results will be available in live time on www.popupraces.ie
- Prizes will be presented on the night down at the finish line.
- Parking - There is no parking at or on the grounds of the army barracks, parking is however available at the county hall on John Street till 10pm.
