This is the second running of the Ben5k in memory of our hero Ben Wadding who sadly died in 2012, aged 3, after a brave battle with cancer. It is a 100% charity event and all proceeds will go to the Ben Wadding Trust whose objective is to make these trust funds available to any organization involved in the diagnosis, treatment and research of childhood cancers and the care of patients suffering from childhood cancers (to be decided).
The course begins on the new road (Park Lane) close to the Faythe Harriers astro pitch. Entrants will run down to the Carcur Road and turn left towards town. After approximately 400 metres, the runners / walkers will make a u-turn at the traffic island and make their way back out the Carcur Road towards Ferrycarrig. At the Ferrycarrig Railway Bridge, the course turns left on to the Old Hospital Road. Here participants will encounter the one and only hill on the course. It’s sharp but it’s short and will be over before you know it! Athletes will make their way in the Old Hospital Road until they reach the new roundabout where they will turn left and head back up Park Lane, to the finish. It promises to be quite a fast course.
