The Braveheart 5km Run 2017 will take place on Friday 16th June at the Porchfields, Trim. Since its inception in 2010 the race which is organised by Trim Athletic Club has grown into one of the most popular events in the local running calendar. Last year over 650 runners ranging from complete beginners to international standard took part in the race. Kenyan runner Peter Somba (Dunboyne AC) and Irish cross country international Laura Shaughnessy (Dundrum South Dublin AC) were the impressive winners of the Larry and Paul Daly Cups.
Each year the race enables Trim AC to raise funds for itself and for our chosen charities. We have helped the Meath Louth branch of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, Trim Special Olympics Club, Leinster River Rescue, Irish Guide Dogs, Hope Foundation, Tabor House and the Conor Foley Neuroblastoma Foundation.
The location and route of the race along the banks of the historic river Boyne is a run back through history. It takes the runners among one of the finest collections of medieval monuments in Ireland. Each year runners and their spectators remark on this memorable visual treat. The friendly atmosphere and excellent post race hospitality combined with the organisational experience of the host club enhances the experience for participants. This year we will be offering a quality 42krunning.com technical t-shirt to early online entrants. The race has an Athletics Ireland permit and will be chip timed by Popup Races who provided the timing service for our Trim AC Bewleys 10 mile race in February.
Since our first race in 2010 the race has enjoyed the continued generous support of sponsors including Kilsaran Home, Supervalu, Glenisk, Rentokil-Initial, OPW, Glanbia, James Griffin, Adrian Dunne Pharmacy, Aura Leisure, and McNamara Feeds.
This level of participant support and commercial/community sponsorship is greatly appreciated by the club as it enables the club to put on a top class event for runners which brings ever increasing numbers each year. It also helps the club provide for its younger members and contribute to the wider community through our charity partnerships. Earlier this year the club entered into a leasing agreement on council owned lands in a partnership with another progressive local sports club Trim Celtic AFC. The two clubs are currently planning the provision of training facilities on a 5 acre site through the Maudlins Sports Partnership. When this project is completed our membership of 300 members will finally have a permanent training base and the area will have a welcome addition to its amenities.
