The race headquarters for the race is at Moran’s Pub on the Royal Canal at Hill-of-Down, Clonard, Co. Meath. Our race is easily accessible – we are only 4 miles from Kinnegad, 10 miles from Trim and Enfield, 12 miles from Edenderry, and 15 miles from Mullingar. Moran’s Pub and the Hill-of-Down is on the Regional Road R161 between Kinnegad and Trim. Check out the Google StreetView view of the Hill-of-Down or just the standard Google Maps view of the area.
The Royal Canal Greenway is a modern construction to facilitate ease of walking, cycling, running etc along the banks of the Canal. However this modern structure blends into the history and beauty of the Canal and its environs. When you take to the greenway you are taking a journey that thousands of others have taken over several hundred years, back to the days when the Canals of Ireland were the motorways of today. There is a peacefulness and natural beauty about the place almost like you are stepping back into time itself.
Our two races are both out and back courses. They are completely traffic free. The 5KM goes from Hill of Down bridge to Blackshade Bridge and back to Moran’s Pub at the Hill. The 10KM goes from the Hill of Down bridge to the Longwood Dock area and then back to Moran’s Pub at the Hill. There are only TWO ‘hills’ in the entire route – these are just the small inclines at each of the two bridges you will encounter. There will be waterstops along the way. We’ll have helpful marshal’s along the way to guide and encourage you. We’ll post GPS tracks on Facebook in the coming days. The 10KM race crosses the Clonard-Longwood road at Blackshade. However we’ll have a traffic management plan in places with marshalls to ensure all runners, joggers and walkers are able to cross this road crossing without stopping.
To facilitate those who prefer not to register online there are dates for extra registration, or to pick up numbers and T-Shirts. These dates are Saturday 26th May from 4-6 pm and Monday 28th May from 6-8 pm at Morans pub. Members of our race organisation team will be there at those times to answer any questions you might have – and show you the start and finish areas.
Other notes and information:
- There will be ample free parking less than 300m walk from the start and finish area
- Refreshments served at Moran’s Pub after the race
- There are NO XL tshirts available. XL sizes chosen will be allocated a L size. Tshirts for the FIRST 200 REGISTERED
